“Of Mice and Men” is a book about how life really was during the great depression. I think that the book was really good because the story line was not something that you would hear about very often. It was a good book however I really do not like the way it ended. It ended with George going to get a drink with Slim. You do not even find out what the reaction of the police would be. It does not tell you if George has to go to jail or not. It only ends with a line from Carlson, which is “Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin’ them two guys.” I think Steinbeck could have ended with having a bit of a reaction from the deaths of Curley’s wife and Lennie. Steinbeck was very descriptive throughout the book, however he failed to be desciptive right when I thought it mattered.
The way John Steinbeck wrote was extremely descriptive. He gave description after description. He wrote about the setting and the people. “…willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter’s flooding: and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool.” It was so detailed; you could almost imagine it in your head. Because of this, the story was improved and easier to believe it could have happened.
The issues that were brought out in the book were woman’s rights and racism. This book really made you think about the issues and I think people even started to want woman’s right more after the book was written, because women were given the right to vote in 1916, which was after the book was published. I think another way they put in the problem with woman’s rights was with Curley’s wife. Just before she is killed she talks about how she could have been something, she could have done something but then she married to Curley. I think in that time, once a woman has gotten married, she almost is not as important as their husband. The husband gets to have so many other rights that the woman does not as well as the fact that the women was forced to take the man’s name. I think the reason they did not have a name for Curley’s wife is because it again shows that woman were not as important as the husband was. She was just known as Curley’s wife because the wife is not known as an individual, but as the husband’s woman.
In my opinion, racism was the issue that was conveyed more than women’s rights. In the book, Crooks was discriminated by everybody except Lennie. I think the only reason Lennie did not discriminate Crooks is because he was not aware of racism. Even George, who was portrayed as someone who was generally fair, discriminated Crooks. I felt that the reason Crooks acted so strange with Lennie, was because he didn’t have to be very carful with what he said, because Lennie would not have understood.
What I think is the main theme to “Of Mice and Men”, is friendship. The friendship between Lennie and most of the characters is what brought the story together. More than just friendship, I think the theme is more about relationships. The relationships between each of the characters to the other are so different with each person. Between George and Lennie, I think their relationship is a little bit like father and son but also like brothers. George is quite obviously the older brother figure or father by taking care of Lennie, whenever he gets in trouble or wants something.
Even thought this article is about whether putting microchips in humans like slavery, it does not really talk about whether it would be like slavery, the author talks more about the pro’s and con’s of microchips.
The author’s pro’s are that if someone like a child is kidnapped the child could be tracked and the kidnapper could be tracked as well and put into jail. If someone breaks the law, again they could be jailed. The author’s con’s are that we would never have any privacy because every move we make would be exposed to everyone.
This article does make a good point from both sides and I have to agree with both sides but I think the title is a bit misleading so if the title might have been something like Placing Microchips in Humans: the Pro’s and the Con’s then I think the article would have been more interesting.

This is a book that is very popular, more with the girls rather than boys; Twilight. Twilight is the first of 4 books in the series; Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. This story is not a normal high school romance. There is a bit of a twist too. As usual it is Boy meets Girl. Boy falls in love with Girl, but here is where it is different; the Boy turns out to be a vampire. Twilight is about how the Isabella Swan has to handle being in love with Edward Cullen, the vampire. I think the story is one of the best stories I have heard in a long time. The story is quite different and not so predictable and keeps you interested for the entire time.
Well in November the movie for the first of the Twilight series had come out and I (a big supporter of the books) watched the movie straight away. My first reaction to the movie my reaction was: “hmm that was okay.” but a friend of mine told me that it must have been so hard to squeeze 500 pages of the book into just and hour and a half, and I have to admit it might have been a bit too hard for the director but after watching it the second time then I thought “actually is quite good.” If you have not read twilight or seen the movie I honestly recomend watching the movie before reading the book and if you are planning not to read or watch twilight I ask you to change your mind and just try and read the book.
I think that the shots when the camera zoomed up it emphasized the words that was being showed. when the important words were being said the camera was moving forward slow and this is good because you dont need to hear everything. as soon as the important words were done, the camera started to zoom really fast.
Dear Mr Taylor
i know how nice of a Headmaster you are and i know you put the happiness of your students first and i have to say, they are not happy about one little rule you have. I understand that you would like to change a few things here in this school and here is one more think you can help us students with. It is to do with our dress code. I think the dress code is pretty much alright but the one rule i cannot stand and that is the rule about how big our shirt strap should be.
Most students including me are quite sick of being told off by a teacher for just wanting to look good. i know this is a school and it is more important if you get good grades but we are only in middle school and high school so we are only children and we like dressing up.
The people who are complaining about this rule is pretty much only girls. If you are a girl and you go shopping and you buy a nice shirt on a Sunday, you would like to wear it on Monday and show our friends you do not really want to wait a whole week to show our friends and just wear tops that are decent for school. If the reason you have this rule is because you want our school to look more formal, then i have to say this is not fair. the reason for this is because even CAJ (Christian Academy in Japan) who is a very strong christian school and do not like showing a lot of skin, do let their students wear tank tops just as long as no other strap is showing. Now, if CAJ is aloud to wear tops like that, it is only fair we get to wear that sort of thing to. please take this letter into consideration. it would really make this school a happier and better place
thank you

Do schools kill creativity?
i think that most schools do kill creativity but not our school because out YIS does pay a lot of attention to the arts like drama and art. most schools think that english, math and science are more important that arts but really i think that it is just as important. infact it is probably better not to go to school to have more creativity. in the olden days people were a lot more creative because they were alowed to do anything they wanted to do. in the Renaissance, the reason the got knew ideas is BECAUSE they stoped listening to the curch which ment not having to follow the rules. if you have to many rules, it means more creativity is killed. so think that most schools DO kill creativity.
